About the event
Healing Salves for Winter Skin
The warm, dry air of our indoor environment as well as cold, windy days outdoors may cause our skin to rebel during the winter months. Rather than blindly searching for an over-the-counter product that may or may not offer relief, why not create our own?
In this workshop we will learn about several nourishing oils and butters, their healing properties and different essential oils that may offer complimentary curative functions. Some of the oils we will explore are baobab, borage, camellia, castor, coconut oil, hemp seed, passionfruit seed, pumpkin seed and more. For butters, we will learn about Shea nut, mango, cocoa, and kokum.
You will come away with a serum for facial skin, a salve for dry skin, and a deep moisturizing balm for those scaly places like elbows, knees, and heels. Also included is a packet of information on the oils and butters, recipes, and resources to find what you need to make your own products. This is an oily hands-on experience so wear clothing that can take an oil stain or two.
About the presenter: Kathy Furze-Spencer has been a massage therapist for nearly 30 years. Since attending school for medical marijuana, she has developed a line of skin care using the root of the cannabis plant which helps with pain and inflammation. Being a bodyworker gives Kathy a unique perspective regarding the skin - common problems as well as more complex conditions. In many cases we can address these issues naturally when appropriate. Empowering all to manage their personal health has been Kathy’s mission throughout her career.
